Discuss the role Freedman's Bureau in the lives of freed slaves following the Civil War. Explain some specific ways that the government helped freed slaves adjust to their new lives. Briefly discuss any two social programs that our country has today to help people in need (Welfare, Food Stamps, WIC, Lifeline, Housing Assistance, SNAP) Overall, do you feel that our country should have programs like these to assist people who are in need? Complete the section review on pg 205. Create flash cards for all terms and names. For numbers 2-5 respond in a short paragraph. Also use Ch 7 sections 1 and 2 to identify 3 significant events (not the war of 1812) during the presidencies of Madison and Monroe(1809-1824). Write a short paragraph describing why each was an important event in US History.
You must hand this work in to the substitute.
When finished you may work on the extra credit assignment which is also listed on the school fusion page.
Extra Credit Assignment
Discuss whether you feel it is necessary for law enforcement officers to wear body cameras. Read the article that is attached under class files and discuss your opinion on the matter. Use specific reasons to support the opinion. What is one point from the article that you did or didn't agree with? Responses are due by Friday 12/9 AND MUST BE TYPED AND PRINTED ON PAPER! You may receive up to 10 points depending on the effort and depth of your discussion.

Each student must type a 1/2 page to a page response on censorship. Discuss whether you feel the US government does too much or too little to censor ideas and images on the internet, TV, radio and video games(discuss each of these). Provide specific examples to support whether you feel our government should do more or do less to limit these forms of media. Also research free speech laws in another country throughout the world. Discuss the major differences between this nation and the US. Responses are due by 10/28
Security vs. Freedom Response
Should we have a government that has authority and control over itís citizens or should we have a government that seeks to protect the freedoms and rights of the individual?
Which is more important security/safety or freedom? Provide specific reasons to support your position. Responses should be 1/2 page to a page.
